Dharamshala
Route : Delhi - Ambala - Jalandhar - Pathankot - Dharamshala The high snow clad Dhauladhar ranges of the Himalayas form a magnificent backdrop to the hill resort of Dharamshala. This is the principal township of Kangra and overlooks the wide spread of the plains. With dense pine and deodar forests, numerous streams, cool healthy air, attractive surroundings and the nearby snowline, Dharamshala has everything for a perfect holiday. And not surprisingly, the headquarters of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is here.Covering a wide area in the form of a twin settlement, Lower Dharamshala (1380 m) is a busy commercial center, while Upper Dharamshala (1830 m) with the suburbs of McLeodganj and Forsythganj, retains a British flavour and colonial lifestyle. The charming church of St. John in the wilderness is situated here and this is final resting place of Lord Elgin, a British Viceroy of lndia during the l9th century. There is also a large Tibetan community who has made this their home. Mcleodganj is the capital in exile for the Tibetan community. Numerous ancient temples like Jawalamukhi, Brijeshwari and Chamunda lie on the plains below Dharamshala. Other places of interest :  His Holiness' Temple (5 Km) : The impressive monastery has larger than life images of the Buddha, Padma Sambha and Avalokteshwara.St. John's Church in wilderness (3 Km) : Between Forsythganj & Mcleodganj lies the charming St. John's Church built with dressed stone and has beautiful stained glass windows. Kangra Art Museum (13 Km) : This museum in Kotwali bazaar has artifacts dating back to 5th century, which display the rich past of the Kangra Valley. It includes a gallery of Kangra's famous miniature paintings, sculptures, pottery and anthropological items. Bhagsunath Temple/Waterfall (1700m) 6 Km : 2 kms away from McLeod Ganj is an ancient temple of Bhagsu Nag. About 1 km there is a small but lovely waterfall close to the temple. Dharamkot (2100m) 5 km : Situated on the crest of a hill, it affords a panoramic view of Kangra Valley, Pong Dam & Dhauladhar ranges.  Dall Lake (1700m) 11 Kms : Surrounded by deodar trees, this is on the motor road to Talnu. Held sacred, this has a small Shiva temple on its banks.Naddi (1800m) : 2 km after Dal Lake is scenic spot Naddi, having a panoramic view of Kangra valley and Dhauladhar range. Kareiri Lake : 35-km from Dharamsala, surrounded by thick woods with a stunning backdrop of the Dhauladhar mountains. At 3200 m it has beautiful high altitude meadows, extensive pasture lands & undulating slopes carpeted with patch work of green floral patterns. Triund (2975m) 14 km : A gradual trek, which passes through Dharamkot and Rakkar Villages. Triund is a popular picnic and trekking spot at the feet of the perpetually snow clad Dhauladhar range.
